The cover grabbed my interest. The first part of the blurb did give me pause because of the topic matter, a grieving widow starting over if not handled with the right touch can be tricky but as I read on I decided that since this was not only a first in series, but a new author to me that I would give it shot. And am I damn happy I did.
I won’t say that I was totally hooked from the very beginning, but I was definitely drawn into the story and as it progressed I became more and more invested in the story and the characters, ALL of them, well at least all that mattered and let’s just say that there is a definite bonus to having a Kindle while at work.
I think I may have fallen just a little in love with Evan. Part of it was definitely because of his relationship with his son Lyon. It wasn’t perfect, he didn’t try to be a perfect father, just a good one. He made mistakes and tried his hardest to learn from them, and when someone stepped into help out he was gracious and thankful of the support. But the other part is just who Evan is. He’s got a good heart, is an Alpha male, but not in an asshole kind of way, is sexy as sin and is much more observant than people give him credit for, not to mention he can draw and has tats, huge, huge bonus for me. Then there is Charlie. First let me say that I really liked her. She is a witty, intelligent woman who at the end of the day you’d want as a friend. And her relationship with Lyon was just too sweet. But dear lord forgive me for saying that I wanted to smack her upside the head a lot. It’s not that I didn’t understand, in fact I do and after learning about her past, it made perfect sense why she felt as she did and tried so hard to stay on her side of the line and stay friends with Evan, in fact I commend her for trying, but… Evan and Charlie together, since they were already friends there was a good base and to watch as they learned even more about each other and started to take things to the next level in their relationship. Their bantering was fun and the smexy moments were HAWT! Two words: Finger. Painting. And when you add Lyon into the mix, who has such a personality and just added another layer of sweet, heart melting moments to the story.
I also loved Asher, Gloria, Faith and Sophie as well as Lyon’s grandparents and the other inhabitants of Evergreen Cove. They all added such great moments to the story as well as made me want to know more about each of them and what their futures hold.
Bringing Home the Bad Boy is filled with many fun, sassy, sexy and heart melting, as well as heartbreaking moments and does a wonderful job dealing with the grief of losing a loved one and how moving forward with one’s life doesn’t mean forgetting how much that person meant to you.
