Series: Fate for Love
Colton Kingston is set on rebuilding his ranch to what it once was before his livelihood was diminished to a pile of ashes from a revengeful dark act of arson. His brothers at heart are there with him every step of the way to help pick up the pieces of the old and replace them with the new.
Paige Summers finds her inner strength to battle through her burdens of taking another person’s life. Standing in her rightful place by Colton’s side, she’s finally holding her own and living her dream of training horses.
Together, Colton and Paige have endured their fair share of obstacles and tragedies, and it has only made them stronger. With Hank Ulrich out of their lives, Colton is determined to make Paige, the girl he’s loved since he was five years old, his wife—forever.
But as one door closes, another opens, and a new danger is lurking in the shadows, threatening to stand in their way.
Will Colton and Paige’s love be endless, the way it was always meant to be? Or will a new devastation fall upon them and ruin their fate?
This is the third book in the series and the best of the three in my opinion. Colton and Paige have been through so much already. Physical injuries and emotional distress put pressure on them as a couple and as individuals. If it wasn't for bad luck, they'd have none as they maneuver through the obstacles life has thrown in their way and they have more obstacles than most. The interesting part of their relationship is that as one stumbles, the other is there to support and pick them up. I appreciated the way they worked together to move forward as a team.
The first two books felt a little slow to me. I liked the characters, but wanted the story to pick up the pace. However, this book was great. The tension, suspense, and demonstration of community and familial support was great. Paige and Colton had to learn that they were not alone and to allow others to offer support. Colton seems the most willing to allow his friends the room to help him out when it comes to rebuilding his outbuildings and confronting those who threaten his home and business. Paige discovers an inner strength when Colton is threatened directly and she becomes a force to be reckoned with. I love the relationships their good friends have as well. The couples who step up and become their extended family are really interesting and add another dynamic to the story, bringing out the best i both Colton and Paige.
The villains in the story seem to come out of the woodwork as it builds. There are several intense high points and a few hints at who the real antagonist is, leaving the reader turning pages faster than ever. The part that touched me the most was that they went after the animals in order to prove a point or make a threat. That added another dynamic to the story as well, but then I am an animal lover at heart, so it tugged on my heartstrings and made me want revenge on their behalf.
Reading all three books is a must. They did not feel like any one could stand on its own- the characters and the story build throughout each book. In order to understand where they are, you need the background knowledge. The other bonus? Gary Taylor is on the covers of each book and seeing him as Colton only fueled my imagination as I read. This author has amazing book covers on each of her series and excellent taste in leading men.
