Former Navy SEAL Axel Blaze lives a solitary life. He doesn't do emotions, and he doesn't do babysitting. Used to being on his own, his job consists of Wetwork (a charming term coined by the KGB) for his former Master Chief, Mac. When an out-of-the-ordinary job lands on his doorstep, Axel heads down a path that includes a famous heavy metal rock band and one quiet, vulnerable, guitar-shredding virtuoso named Gareth Wolf.
Gareth Wolf's life changed in an instant when a car he was a passenger in crashed, hurting his brother's best friend and the band's lead guitarist. They created the band, Skull Blasters, as kids. Gareth had always been happy in the background, playing roadie. With the lead guitarist's injury, Gareth is suddenly thrust into the limelight and into a frenzied life he never imagined for himself. Finally fed up with living a lie, Gareth comes out as gay in a newspaper interview and finds himself in the bulls-eye of a crazed stalker. Somebody wants Gareth hurt - or worse - and Mac has been hired to be sure that doesn't happen. Babysitting duty is NOT Axel's strong suit, but Mac won't be budged.
Enter Axel Blaze.
Against his better judgment, the big man takes the job to protect the shy musician. The more time he spends with Gareth Wolf, the more he admires the man. Where's a simple assassination when you need one? The situation becomes more volatile for each man as the attempts on Gareth escalate just as Axel finds himself falling for the quiet lead guitarist.
Strong, funny, smart-ass -- and kinda sweet Axel is everything Gareth has ever wanted in a man. Too bad he's off limits. As the stalker grows bolder, Gareth and Axel move closer emotionally - but is it too late? All Axel knows is that they don't stand a chance if he can't find the maniac trying to kill the man he's come to care about. A lot.
Everyone knows that relationships that begin in pressured or volatile situations eventually fizzle out.
Or do they?

Oh, how do I love the beginning of a series, and a rock series to top it all off. Sandrine, you have me hooked by the first release!
Now, that is out of the way! So, let me just get into the nitty gritty of this whole review and then I will leave you to download this great book, dear reader! Oh, wait, let me ask you all a question! Have any of you read Ann Lister’s “Rock Gods” series? If you have, then you are in for a real treat. There are a few characters that you will see have a cameo appearance in “FRET” and if you have read the next to last release by Ann, you know that Sandrine’s ‘Skull Blasters’ make a cameo in that book. It is all about sharing the love. OHHHHH LOVE... yeah, let me get down to that.
While the relationship building relationship is present in Sandrine’s book, the plot is not without .... well, a plot! There is a story to be told in this book and it is one that unravels in a way that you are looking forward to what is going down with the band and more importantly, with Gareth himself. It is not just the sexual tension or the way that sparks fly between Axel and Gareth, but the way that the pair of them begin to share something that is more than a body guard and his charge. It is a friendship that has that underlying potential to be sooo much more. Does it become what we want... of course it does, I mean, I don’t think many authors leave us without a happy ending, and Sandrine is no different in that aspect.
I am never one to divulge the juicy details or outline the main plot for you all, because what fun would that be if you knew everything going into the book? What I do like to do is give you all a few little hints and some heads up into what you might suspect be going on, especially with a book that has a great plot and a bit of suspense added in. So, when you begin to not trust someone, stick with that feeling. Does the plot play out in a predictable way? Nope, not at all. My suspicions were correct, and I still was a bit surprised as to why.
If you are looking to start a new series or even try out one of Sandrine’s books, this is a great book to get you well on your way. If you have not read anything by Sandrine, then I urge you do that. Why? Well, read a couple of them and I think you will be picking up what I am putting down.
Once again, Sandrine gives us a great book... and I cannot wait until the next release. So, until then, ROCK ON, my dear readers, and immerse yourself into the world of the Skull Blasters!
