Chloe Carmichael’s life feels pretty sweet—she’s both maid of honor and florist for her best friend’s A-list wedding, things are getting serious with her boyfriend, and her flower shop is about to get a spread in a national magazine. But it all quickly turns sour whenever the best man, Bad Habit drummer A.J. Edwards, shows his face...his handsome, unforgettable face. A.J. is everything Chloe doesn’t want: tattooed, selfish, and all-around bad news. So why can’t she stop thinking about him?
Goody two-shoes Chloe isn’t exactly A.J.’s type, either, but the chemistry between them is undeniable. A.J. will be the first to say he isn’t a saint, but there’s something he’s not saying—something that would devastate Chloe. The only way he can protect her is to push her away, but the drummer finds he needs her now more than ever. When a wedding-day confrontation reveals secrets they’re both hiding, will Chloe and A.J. ever find their rhythm again?
I'll come clean and admit that while I was totally excited for this book I was also a bit terrified as well. After the crazy of Sweet As Sin, which I totally loved by the way, and the hostile nature of A.J. and Chloe’s relationship I had to question if my sanity could handle what was coming because no matter which way I looked at things I knew this one would gut me one way or another and Holy. Fucking. Hell did it ever! Make Me Sin is that perfect mix of heartbreakingly beautiful and heartwarmingly sweet, with just enough crazy (both the good and the angsty) and smexy as sin in it that I had a hell of a time putting it down but I made myself do it. Yup, I actually found some self control and put it down because if I didn’t I knew I’d devour it and I wanted to savor every moment between A.J. and Chloe.
I remember growling at A.J. in the first book for his surly nature and treatment of Chloe and applauding Chloe for not just taking what he was dishing out for no good reason and that was my mindset going into this book, but from the first page things started to change. A.J. is surly and then some but as more of his backstory unfolds and I finally got to experience the world through his eyes I found that the huge Viking like sex god (and let me tell you A.J. is hot!) of a drummer had a beautiful yet battered soul and though there was still growling going on all I wanted to do was hug him and make the pain go away. What he’d been through, how he saw the world and people and expressed himself, when not being a surly ass, left my heart in a pile of sappy gooeyness.
Chloe totally surprised me. I had kind of thought of her as just way too peppy for her own good in the first book, not in a bad way, but her whole “but everyone likes me” thing did have me doing the sigh/rolling of the eyes thing, but as I finally got to know more about her and what drove her, the only way to describe her is to say she has a lot of moxie and gumption. She really is a good soul and worked really hard to achieve her dreams, despite what her parents wanted. Yes, she tended to stick to a certain way of looking at things ~ the world, her love life ~ but they weren’t rose colored in anyway, just what she’d always thought she wanted. She has a good soul and even when upset wanted the best for those around her.
To describe their courtship as an emotional rollercoaster feels like an understatement. It was simply intense. From the love triangle to A.J. and Chloe finally taking a chance on each other to the stupid things people do when they want to protect the one they love to the end where they finally figure out and accept that they are soulmates was crazy, but so damn worth the ride. I thought Nico and Kat’s story was crazy, but nope. This one definitely trumps theirs with all the heart wrenching landmines, both good and bad, throughout the story, I really was an emotional wreck after reading it.
Throughout all of this we do get to spend quite a bit of time with the gang from the first book as well as get introduced to some new faces. Nico and Kat are so in love and so happy it’s almost sickening, but so good to see after all they went through. We get to know a little more about Trina, Chloe’s assistant at the flower shop and part of me hopes she gets her own book as the series progresses. We get to meet Chloe’s parents and find out why she is as determined to live her life on her own terms, but I do have to say that I loved Jamie, her brother, instantly and ended up adoring her dad in the end. Grace is as observant and blunt as ever, which I loved. And then there is Kenji, who I seriously adore and would love as my BFF.
I loved all the little, well huge, twists and turns and how they all were woven together to create this beautiful romance and then there is THAT epilogue. THAT epilogue which I had to read twice because talk about major tease as to the crazy that the next book will wreak on my emotions because if this one left me wrung out, I have a feeling that one is going to slay me.
The Bottom Line: If you love a good ‘ole crazy angsty emotional rollercoaster romance with great characters then this one is a definite must read!
