Mirror Mage picks up not long after the end of Ancient Magic and from page one we are off and running with the characters. There is a lot that happens in this book and only served to whet my appetite into wanting more. We get a glimpse into how the Alpha Council, one of the main governing bodies in their world, operates, shown the reason why Cass and her sisters are so adamant about keeping the fact that they are FireSouls underwraps. And get a little glimpse into the girls pasts as Cass’s memories start to return. Added on to all of that we experience Cass’s struggle to control her magic as well as her attraction to Aiden as secrets and past hurts are revealed.
As with all of Ms. Hall’s books, this one hooked me from the first page and kept me turning the pages to see what would happen next. The twists and turns were done well as are the action sequences, and I like the pace at which the overall storyline is moving. In Ancient Magic I noted that I wished we’d been able to spend more quality time with the sisters together so we could get to know them and their personalities a little more. and in Mirror Mage we get that, as well as a lot more time with Aiden, who I really like but still wonder why he is doing what he is doing, but I guess I’ll just have to be patient and cross my toes that more is revealed in the next book.

Cass Clereaux likes her job. It’s simple—steal the magic, don’t get killed. FireSouls like her are perfect for magic treasure hunting. Their dragon soul helps them find treasure, their wicked powers help them steal it. But there’s a big freaking downside—FireSouls are hunted. If either of the magical governments figures out what she is, she can kiss her life goodbye.
When the Alpha Council comes to her with a special job, it’s a no-brainer to turn it down, no matter how much money they’re offering. Shifters who can sniff out her weird magic are the last supernaturals she needs to be around. Worse? They have a history of hunting FireSouls. But when Cass learns that a little girl’s life is at stake and Cass is her last hope, she doesn’t have a choice.
With her sisters and Aidan Merrick at her back, she’s got a chance at saving the girl and keeping her deadly secret—until she learns there’s far more to this kidnapping than meets the eye. It’s far too similar to what happened to her as a child, and everything new that she learns scares her even more
