Kash Kamdar is the king of a peaceful but powerful island nation. As Loa Mali’s sovereign, he is always in control, the final authority. Until his mother uses an ancient law to force her son into marriage. His prospective queen is a buttoned-up intellectual, nothing like Kash’s usual party girl. Still, from the moment of their forced engagement, he can’t stop thinking about her.
Dayita Samar comes from one of Loa Mali’s most respected families. The Oxford-educated scientist has dedicated her life to her country’s future. But under her staid and calm exterior, Day hides a few sexy secrets of her own. She is willing to marry her king, but also agrees that they can circumvent the law. Just because they’re married doesn’t mean they have to change their lives. It certainly doesn’t mean they have to fall in love.
After one wild weekend in Dallas, Kash discovers his bride-to-be is more than she seems. Engulfed in a changing world, Kash finds exciting new possibilities for himself. Could Day help him find respite from the crushing responsibility he’s carried all his life? This fairy tale could have a happy ending, if only they can escape Kash’s past…
I am a huge Lexi Blake fan. That being said, this story was not up to Lexi Blake's usual standards. I found it very difficult to get into and it seemed slow to me. I struggled to like the characters as well, and I am struggling to write this review. I hate to say something was not a good read, but this particular story just fell flat for me.
The story line had potential and I thought having a meddling mother might be a nice change of pace from the usual romance set-ups. Unfortunately, I found the fact that Day just essentially said she'd do it and never looked back a bit bland. Why was she willing to give up her life in the blink of an eye to serve the wishes of the King's mother? It didn't seem genuine.
Yes, she had been in love with him on some level for years, but they didn't know each other any more. They've both changed so much. Neither is the person they were in college. The people they've become appear to be vastly different. Kash has become a man-whore who uses his position to get what he wants and hates his life. Day is now a quiet and reserved member of their society, but Kash isn't even aware of her being in the castle. I got lost at this point and struggled to finish the story. Even with the addition of sex to their relationship, I didn't find it enticing enough to continue reading.
I'm disappointed, but not enough to stop reading Lexi Blake. I will continue to read her books. This is just a bump in the road. Her previous work speaks for itself and I'll continue to be a fan.
