Secrets. Everyone has them. Everyone keeps them for various reasons.
As a witch with power over water, Anna wants her secrets to stay in the past where they belong. All she desires is to enjoy the present, but what she thought was buried long ago, has found a nasty way of coming back to bite her.
So hold on tight. Not only is her big bad secret back, but it’s hungry and Anna looks like the perfect entree for dinner.
Pete has secrets of his own. As a Djinn, he is skilled and powerful enough to cajole Anna to tell him hers, although he knows he may have to confess up some of his own deep dark nightmares. When she learns his secrets will she still look at him the same way? Or will she take a chance on what could be? Not that it matters. Pete isn’t ready to let her go. She is his soul mate whether she is ready to admit it or not. He will make her realize they are meant to be together, even if he has to follow her to hell to do so.
Will their secrets destroy what they could be before they have the chance to begin?
I enjoyed Book 1 of the series and loved Ryan and Zoey. Having met Pete and Anna in that book, I already liked them. Anna is a bit more reserved than Zoey, but that is part of her charm. She is fiercely loyal and would do anything for those in her coven. She's experienced so much in her short life....well, short is relative when you're a witch....and yet, she still has a willingness to put herself out there. Alright, not with Pete, but with others, she allows them to see her. Pete overwhelms her and she can't put her finger on why that is, but when her past comes screaming back into her life, she had little choice but to let him in.
Pete has seen who Anna is from the beginning, in my opinion. He didn't care that she was a controlling witch because he had his own magic up his sleeve and could handle anything she threw at him. He is wise though and doesn't go directly after what he wants. He comes at her from the side, so to speak, and get her attention that way. He makes himself available and when she needs him, he's there, whether she likes it or not.
And the chemistry between the two? Well, let's just say the temperatures skyrocket when the two of them let down their walls and they nearly combust. Anna is one lucky witch! And Anna's blast from the past? He doesn't know what he's started or who he's up against when he tries to make waves.
The beginning of the book lets us know where Ryan and Zoey are and what they are doing. The alternating perspectives and settings in terms of time were a touch confusing until I got into the book. Once things were rolling, it all fit together, the puzzle pieces fell into place, and led me to the conclusion. I liked that there is not a cliffhanger at the end, but there are hints of future romances brewing between other characters. That is enough for now. Can't wait to see what else these authors have up their sleeves!
