I'm a huge Lexi Blake fan, but I had not started this series and was not prepared for the rollercoaster ride. Well done!
Alright...down to the nitty gritty. Carly comes off as a meak and resigned to living her life under the thumb of her employer. She doesn't date. She doesn't get out much and she has very few friends. In fact, she lives this life of seclusion because her boss demands it and because if she doesn't follow the rules, her sister would be at stake. Her boss holds her sister over her head and threatens her as often as possible, so Carly puts up with it and muddles through.
When she decides she might want to date, she isn't prepared to meet Brandon. In fact, it wasn't by chance that they met. She'd been manipulated from the beginning to go out with exactly this man. Well...not exactly this man, but Brandon's stepped in to get her attention rather than sending his uptight, controlling brother. They need Carly to set their plan into motion. Without her, they are dead in the water, so Brandon takes a risk and dives in head first. He tells her about their plan and she has the power to make or break them.
This book has so many twists and turns, I couldn't put it down. The men in Brandon's family all have issues to deal with, not the least of which is discovering who killed their parents and making them pay. Carly agrees to help, but doesn't count on falling for Brandon and he's equally blindsided by her. They both have trust issues and Brandon's family takes disfunction to a whole new level, but in the end, despite everything they've gone through, their love for eachother is obvious.
I won't give away the ending. It's too good to even give a hint as to what you'll discover, but let's just say that Blake has thrown in a doozie of an ending. I didn't see it coming. The red herrings Blake threw in were brilliant. You've got to read and enjoy the ride all the way to the end. What a rush! Oh, and Brandon is a great guy who would be totally worth meeting on a dating site or anywhere else for that matter.
