Sometimes passion has a price …
When sexy Stark Security Chief Ryan Hunter whisks his girlfriend Jamie Archer away for a passionate, romance-filled weekend so he can finally pop the question, he’s certain that the answer will be an enthusiastic yes. So when Jamie tries to avoid the conversation, hiding her fears of commitment and change under a blanket of wild sensuality and decadent playtime in bed, Ryan is more determined than ever to convince Jamie that they belong together.
Knowing there’s no halfway with this woman, Ryan gives her an ultimatum – marry him or walk away. Now Jamie is forced to face her deepest insecurities or risk destroying the best thing in her life. And it will take all of her strength, and all of Ryan’s love, to keep her right where she belongs…
This is a quick, fun read. Jamie, who we've met before, loves Ryan. Ryan is entirely committed to Jamie as well and is ready to settle down, but his little minx is determined to keep things light and easy. Ryan is an alpha male if there ever was one, and decides it's time to pop the question. Jamie, Nikki Stark's best friend, is not ready to commit completely to him. She loves him, sure, but no one in her life has ever set a good example of a strong relationship.
Ryan points out, as do her friends, that she is surrounded by examples of loving, committed relationships and not everyone is like her parents. Jamie stubbornly refuses to give up her single-but-taken status that she is comfortably surviving in with Ryan. She decides to derail his plans by keeping him distracted and so turned on, he won't remember to propose to her, but Ryan is no fool and sees right through her games.
Ryan is a saint and incredibly patient with this stubborn woman. He's the perfect guy in terms of the way he cares for Jamie and he shows her he loves her on a daily basis. Wedding bells are ringing in his head whenever he is around Jamie and he's ready to take that leap of faith. It takes wise advice from her friends and her mom to help her see past the chip on her shoulder, but will it be too late?
I guess I found Jamie a bit ridiculous at times. They'd been together for two years and she wasn't ready to trust him yet? Does the man have to jump through hoops on fire to earn her trust? I understand she has issues- don't we all, but she kept pushing him away and then pulling him back. When she finally decided to get on board, she redeemed herself in my head and I enjoyed the ending.
I love this crew and their escapades. Kenner is a fabulous writer and develops characters beautifully. My frustrations aside, this was a fun read.
