Series: Against the Cage #2
Aiden “Disco Stick” Kruze walked away from it all—money, family, friends, and a successful career as a lawyer in Manhattan—to pursue his dream of being an MMA fighter. When a sexy private investigator shows up at Aiden’s gym, he mistakenly assumes she’s a cage-banging groupie.
Ryann is determined to haul Aiden back home. She’s desperate to claim the reward money that will pay off her father’s creditors before the man who killed her father comes to collect from her.
Aiden is done living his life under the microscope of being a senator’s son. He’s not going back to New York—ever—and there’s nothing this tenacious redhead can do about it. Or is there?
When the demons of Aiden’s past catch up with him, he realizes the lies, deception, and betrayal run deeper than he ever imagined. Aiden must put his career and his life on the line to save the woman who’s stolen his heart.
Aiden peaked my interest at the end of Win by Submission and I most definitely wanted to know how he went from being a lawyer to an MMA fighter, so when I saw that Passing His Guard it really was a no brainer that I would scoop it up, and I was hooked from the prologue. The plot of the story intrigued me and I loved learning about Aiden and Ryann, and actually liked them, as well as trying to figure out the mystery at hand, but dear lord did our H/h couple give me whiplash.
Now let me say that the whiplash Aiden and Ryann gave me throughout the book, well mostly in the first 50% or so, had some validity considering the situation they found themselves in, but it got to be a bit much for my tastes, so as far as the angsty push/pull thing if you like that sort of thing you’ll love them to pieces. But what saved them for me was that I really did like them both. Aiden “Disco Stick” Kruze really is so much more than what he appears and as those walls he’s constructed fall, the man beneath is a pretty amazing guy. Ryann’s heart and tenacity make her a woman I’d definitely want in my corner.Outside of the whole whiplash issue, they had blazing chemistry and once they got their issues straightened out I could see that they did belong together.
But while Aiden and Ryann where giving me whiplash the plot of the book kept me on the straight and narrow without making my neck hurt. The twists and turns to the plot were done well and I enjoyed trying to figure out just what was going on and how everything tied together. There were somethings that I figured out, but there were also a few things I didn’t see coming and one in particular had me saying “oooohhhh” outloud. And then there is Nikko...mmmm...yeah he needs a book badly.
The Bottom Line: Yes Aiden and Ryann drove me batshit crazy, but I still really enjoyed the story and I want more of Nikko.
