The cover was lure because I have a bit of an obsession with rugby (the All Blacks specifically), even though my knowledge of the game is painfully lacking, I still think it’s the most amazing sport out there. The description was the hook because I had to know how the date went and the book just sounded like it’d be a lot of fun to see what would go down between Dex and Harper and I wasn’t disappointed. This was a fun, quick read with great characters and lots of heat that I finished in one sitting.
I loved Dex and Harper from the start. Dex sweeping in to help Harper out in the beginning definitely gave him a leg up, but getting to see how sweet, charming, sincere and flirty he is as the story progresses made it hard not to love him. Also, he’s practically sex on a stick, which earned brownie points as well. He does have his hang ups, like believing that rugby is the only thing that he can have his full attention, but he has his reasons and tends to take things in stride...most of the time.
Harper is my kind of woman. She is a tall curvy woman who, for the most part, is comfortable in her own skin. Yes, she has some insecurities when it comes to body image, especially when put downs and insults are thrown at her, but she works her way out of the funk that they put her in and remembers that she is happy with what she has and the life that she lives. She loves her chosen profession and the happiness it can bring to others. She’s sassy and speaks her mind, though too much white wine tends to make her speak way too much of her mind. She puts up with a lot when it comes to her stepbrother and stepmother, and it may make her look like a doormat, but she has her reasons and they are the right reasons, which simply shows what a huge heart she has.
Dex and Harper’s road to their HEA was fun, flirty, 5 alarm hot (strip video gaming anyone?) and swoony sweet from start to finish. The chemistry between them was intense, their flirting fun and I loved how Dex never hid his attraction from Harper. What I enjoyed the most was that while Dex was definitely a dominant alpha male, the balance of power between them was equal. The times when Harper took charge were awesome and pretty damn hot. While the main issue keeping them from being a ‘true’ couple was laid out from the beginning, it was still frustrating to experience and had me wishing I could reach out and smack some sense into both of them. But, they both needed their own ‘come to Jesus’ moments to acknowledge that they actually loved each other (Dex’s moment was awesome!). And the grovelling at the end...that’s what you call going BIG!
This was my first read by Amy Andrews, but won’t be the last. The writing was engaging, well paced and the dual 3rd person POV was done very well. The supporting cast of characters were fun and well written. I’m definitely going to have to go back and read Tanner and Tillie’s book, Playing by Her Rules, and am going to be on the lookout for the next one in the series. I’m hoping it will either Linc or Em’s, or maybe they’ll be the next ones to find their HEA together, but even if it’s not either of them I’ll definitely be picking it up.

Harper Nugent might have a little extra junk in her trunk, but her stepbrother calling her out on it is the last straw… When rugby hottie, Dexter Blake, witnesses the insult, he surprises Harper by asking her out. In front of her dumbass brother. Score! Of course, she knows it’s not for reals, but Dex won’t take no for an answer.
Dexter Blake’s life revolves around rugby with one hard and fast rule: no women. Sure, his left hand is getting a workout, but he's focused on his career for now. Then he overhears an asshat reporter belittle the curvy chick he'd been secretly ogling. What's a guy to do but ask her out? It’s just a little revenge against a poser, and then he'll get his head back in the game.
But the date is better than either expected. So is the next one. And the next. And the heat between them…sizzles their clothes right off.
Suddenly, this fake relationship is feeling all too real…
