I’ve enjoyed each book in the series and seriously ADORED Conner and Faith, but no matter which couple was front and center Asher and Gloria’s rocky relationship was always floating around in the background making me wonder just what it would take for them to finally get their HEA, especially after Asher finds out that he’s a daddy and just who the baby mama is. So, I geared up and dove into the Return of the Bad Boy and while I did end up enjoying the book as a whole, I had a few moments where I almost threw my Kindle into the freezer.
The description states that Asher is a mess, and for the most part that is true. The man has found out that he’s a daddy, the baby mama had a huge hand in the drama that caused Gloria to walk away from him on a personal level, and he hasn’t quite figured out how to get her back. But he isn’t in a total cluster of a situation. He’s pulled up his big boy pants and is in the process of doing what he can to be a father to his son, which isn’t easy with the baby mama drama going on, while continuing to do what he loves, which is play music. He wants to make everything work, but the pieces of the puzzle aren’t falling into place easily. But he is determined and the sincerity behind it was seriously heartwarming.
Now there is Gloria. In all honesty if anyone is a mess, it’s Gloria. On the outside she looks like she’s all put together, but it’s all on the surface. Her childhood was not a warm and loving one and her abandonment and trust issues are pretty epic, so much so that she constantly questions the motives and sincerity of those around her. This leads her to question her own decisions and feelings and the constant yo-yo’ing drove me batshit crazy because she is an amazing woman with a huge heart who sticks up for those she cares about, but can’t seem to believe that anyone would really want to do the same for her.
With all the baggage and issues both Asher and Gloria are carrying around, it’s safe to say that the road to their HEA was an extremely bumpy one and though I think they are perfect for each other and was happy when they finally worked everything else, I swear I almost tossed my Kindle into the freezer on numerous occasions. Much of my irritation landed firmly on Gloria’s shoulders because she changed her mind constantly about how she was going to deal with Asher. I swear I got whiplash because of it, but I loved that once Asher made the decision to make her his that he never wavered. I thought that Asher’s baby mama drama was done well, though the whole Jordan going back into groupie mode just didn’t work for me. Then there is the whole Brice situation which quite honestly did nothing for me. I understood why he was apart of the story and the role he played, but with the baby mama drama going on, I just didn’t feel it was necessary.
While I had some issues with the whiplash from Asher and Gloria’s relationship what saved my sanity and pushed my rating from 3 stars to 4 stars were the Bad Boy crew and their women, Asher’s parents, Hawk and even the dogs. When I’m told that a series is about a family or tight group of friends I expect to see the characters pop up throughout the story, even if it’s only briefly and Ms. Lemmon nailed it here. I loved catching up with all of them and Asher’s parents are awesome!
Asher and Gloria may not be my favorite couple of the series, that honor still firmly rests with Connor and Faith, but it was still an enjoyable read and a great addition to the series.

He's a mess...
Asher Knight has three constants in his life: music, beautiful women, and a bottle of Jack. He lives for the next gig, the next city, and dreams only of a life spent in front of an arena full of screaming fans. But Asher's nomad ways come to a sudden stop when he learns he's the father of a three-year-old from a past relationship and suddenly this rock star bad boy is forced to put down roots.
Only she can clean up
Gloria Shields is no one's fool. Sure, the sexual chemistry between her and Asher has always been intense, but she'd never risk giving her heart to a man who has a perfect record for breaking them. Except the man desperate to make things right with his new found son is nothing like the rock god she's guarded her heart against for years. And it isn't long before she starts to wonder if life with this bad boy might be the best thing that's ever happened to her.
