She’s an expert in helping others de-stress, but Arilyn Meadows is running on fumes. Along with her job counseling singles seeking soul mates at the Kinnections agency in Verily, New York, she’s a yoga teacher, animal shelter volunteer, anger management therapist, and helping hand to her beloved grandfather. No time to find Mr. Right—but after discovering her yogi boyfriend in a compromising asana, Arilyn would rather dog-sit for her honeymooning friend Kate than risk her heart on another downward dog. And when police officer Stone Petty—radiating masculinity and bad-boy attitude—is sent to her for mandatory lessons in cooling off when the job gets too hot, Arilyn vows to ignore his seductive glances and sexy grin. But there’s no halting their sizzling flirtation—a red-hot, high-speed chase that’s breaking all the limits.
Having never read anything by Jennifer Probst before, I didn’t know what to expect but I found that Searching For Always was a fun, sweet and sexy opposites attract romance that had me running the gamut of emotions from laughter to irritation and even a few sniffles in between that made it hard for me to put down.
I loved Stone! Yes, he was a grumpy, snarky, uncooperative jerk at times, okay, most of the time depending on who he was dealing with, but he was also funny, sweet, sexy and honest. His unapologetic honesty in who he was and why he did what he did was a huge draw for me and I loved that he called things like he saw it but was also man enough to admit when he was wrong. But where I loved Stone from the beginning, it took me awhile to warm up to Arilyn. Her desire to live a clean, healthy and spiritually uplifting life was something I could support, I’m all about doing what makes you happy, but at times her need to push that desire onto others got a bit annoying, especially when she made snap judgements with no real understanding of why the person was the way they were. But her generous heart and honest desire to help those in need, both human and those of the furry, four legged variety, helped to warm me up to her and by the end of the book I found her to be quite delightful.
Stone and Arilyn’s relationship unfolded in a realistic and, for lack of a better word, organic way. They definitely fall under the umbrella of ‘opposites attract’ and fireworks went off whenever they were around each other. And while I tended to side with Stone when they did get into it, I have to give props to Arilyn for giving as good as she got, she is no wilting flower. And the chemistry between them was sizzling and Stone is all hot alpha male smexyness, especially with ice cubes.
I liked the flow and pacing of the story and though I didn’t read the other books in the series I never felt lost. The characters from previous books do make appearances and we do get a little bit of each of their backstories, but the focus is always on Stone and Arilyn. Also, as most know I’m a sucker for well written secondary characters and this book has quite a few of them. Poppy and Devine are my favorites and Pinky and Robert were absolutely adorable!
The Bottom Line: Searching For Always is a fun, sweet, sexy and well written opposites attract romance that can be read as a standalone, but if you haven’t read the previous books in the series will have you wanting to grab them up as you keep an eye out for the next one.
