Series: Bad Habit #1
Twentysomething Kat Reid is loving life as an in-demand Hollywood makeup artist. She has absolutely no interest in rock ’n’ roll, but in order to pay the mortgage, she agrees to work on the set of a rock video for the world-famous rockers known as Bad Habit…which brings her face-to-face with Nico Nyx, lead singer of Bad Habit and Adonis in the flesh.
However, the fiercely independent Kat isn’t impressed by the hard-living, womanizing rock star. But when Nico’s model girlfriend shows up to the set drunk and Kat is tapped to replace her as the video’s sexy bride, her combustible chemistry with Nico suddenly threatens to consume the set. Nico feels it, too—and becomes determined to win Kat over, body and soul. Yet behind his rock god swagger, Nico hides a dark secret. Can he rock Kat’s world forever, or will he just break her heart?
COULDN’T PUT THIS DOWN!
Even when the characters frustrated the hell out of me, and believe me they did quite a few times, I couldn’t stop reading. I tried to go to sleep but the damn thing kept calling to me and I finally gave in finished it. And all I can say is that it was well worth it!
First off, I LOVED Kat! I loved her snark, sass and at times irreverent humor, which had me laughing out loud quite a few times. She has a good heart and stands up for not only herself, but others when the situation calls for it. And though she has a good dose of confidence and gumption, she is also a bit of a marshmallow when it comes to those she cares about. Then there is Nico, who I’m definitely putting on my book boyfriend list. The sexy as sin alpha rockstar is the definition of determined and I gotta admit that determination scared me a little at times, but I couldn’t help but be drawn to him because there was an honesty beneath it that was undeniable.
Their relationship drove me a little bat shit crazy, but at no time did I feel like tossing my e-reader into the freezer because of it. There is that thread of Insta-Love but it was handled well and in a way that I actually enjoyed and though there is quite a bit of drama that goes on between Nico and Kat, there is an honesty to it. At times it seemed over the top, but considering their pasts and believe me they both have crazy pasts, and just who they are at their core, their fiery, and at times dark, exchanges were to be expected. But despite the drama, Kat and Nico worked just worked. Their chemistry was hot and the moments between them were sweet and sexy.
The writing was engaging, the story is told from Kat’s POV in 1st person, and the twists and turns in it were done very well. I guessed correctly in one instance and did decently in another one, but was totally blindsided by just what happened in Nico’s past. And then there were Kat and Nico’s friends. I loved Chloe and Grace, Kat’s friends. They are definitely opposites but their loyalty and support of each other was just one of the great things about this book.I absolutely ADORED Kenji and I hope that we get to see more of him throughout the series and Barney has definitely peaked my interest. I do wish that we’d gotten to spend more time with the rest of the guys in Bad Habit, but what was there was definitely intriguing, especially A.J. who I hope the next book will be about.
The Bottom Line: This one got me hook, line and sinker and I can’t wait for the next one!
