***2 ‘It’s not you, it’s me’ Stars***
My relationship with MC romances is a funny one. Where I can accept almost anything when it comes to other genres, I have this set way of seeing how an MC should be run. It doesn’t matter if it’s a one percenter MC or not, there are certain aspects that I think should be apart of the structure and everyday life of the club and unfortunately The Blood Riders just didn’t do it for me.
We are told that the Blood Riders are the biggest, baddest criminal MC in the area and that they are at war with another MC, but I just didn’t feel it or see it. Their actions and reactions felt more like an MC light type of gang than a one percenter type, or even a gang that toes that fine line, because had I not been told constantly that there was blood being shed and runs going on, I honestly would not have thought they were a criminal MC. While I don’t expect all MC’s to be filled with male chauvinistic pigs or be psychotic killers, there is a level of grit, dirt and darkness I want to feel and this one just didn’t have it.
As for Drake and Nicole. I liked them well enough but didn’t fall in love with them. Drake is all about the MC and will put his life on the line for any of his brothers. Nicole has a set of brass balls, I give the girl that much, but there were a few times where all I could think was “Book smart, not so much common sense smart.” Their relationship went from 0 to light speed and even gave me whiplash. I’m not one that has an issue with insta-love, but whoa, even I had to blink a few times, but as I’ve always said, as long as the couple get to know each other deeper than just the sex then I can accept it and the did go beyond the surface. And the epilogue worked for me, it was fitting for them.
The storyline was well done and played out well in the end. The supporting cast of characters were decent enough, Tamara was probably the most well developed of all of them and the one I liked the most. I give the author props for building her own MC and while I didn’t love it, others may like what her MC has to offer.
