I adored Wicked Lust Cain and Sloane’s story was practically perfect, so much so that I got all sniffly and teary. So when I found out that Rand, someone who I hadn’t thought twice about (mostly because Bridger took up most of the space when the MC’s weren’t around), would be the star of the next book I wasn’t exactly jumping out of my seat doing a happy dance, but I was intrigued and since we are talking about a Sawyer Bennett novel here, I knew I’d enjoy it one way or another and I gotta say that I ended up loving Rand and Cat.
Rand is a sweetheart with the confidence of an alpha male and the sex drive of a God. He also has something of a white knight complex, something he willingly cops to, but due to past experiences has learned that not everyone wants to be saved and instead just needs a helping hand to get them back on track. He’s cocky, and rightfully so, but not arrogant. All in all, he’s that guy that you know you could turn to in a pinch and he’d do whatever he could to help you out.
Cat was a little more complicated. Her past is filled with feelings of inadequacy and abandonment issues and when we meet her, her present isn’t looking very promising either. But as the book progresses she begins to evolve, in more ways than one, and starts to become the woman she was meant to be. A woman who is smart, sassy, independent and can balance her need to be in charge while still accepting help graciously.
As for Cat and Rand’s journey to their HEA. I loved how they progressed from two people who had been in scenes together at The Silo to friends and eventually to lovers. This isn’t to say that it was an easy road, there were quite a few internal debates they both had to deal with first, but I really liked how they took the trust they had formed at The Silo and built on it. They were open and honest about their pasts and the here and now, though the emotional side took a little while to get out, and genuinely liked each other outside of having extremely hot sex so it made their journey to their HEA even sweeter. I also liked how Rand would push, but recognized and respected that Cat didn’t need a white knight, she just needed a friend and loved how he put her first and let her take control, even when he didn’t want to.
As always happens with a Sawyer Bennett book I was sucked in from the first page and pretty much devoured the book. I will say that I pretty much figured out how the issue with Cat and Simon’s will would play out, but I still enjoyed watching it all unfold because it was through that process that Cat found herself, and Rand. I, of course, did a happy sigh any time Bridger was in a scene (and I swear I have my own little countdown going on for when his book is released now that we know it’s release date. YAY!) and loved the role Callie and Sloane played in the story. And as for Logan, I gotta say I’m quite interested to see how his HEA will play out, especially after spending some quality time with him in this one, so I’ll definitely be looking to get my greedy little hands on it!
