Alexandra Monzelle is a hard-fighting, heat-packing Seattle vice cop, and she’s not much interested in being protected. Her short skirt and sex-kitten heels are tools to lure her suspects into talking about the deadly new drug hitting the streets. She can take care of herself and then some. Unfortunately, she can’t seem to get that through to Kellach Dunne.
Kellach is a fresh import from Dublin, and he’s landed at the heart of a vicious motorcycle club that deals in guns, narcotics, and mayhem. He’s all male, all rough power—and all interference in her damn investigation. Maybe he’s one of the good guys. Maybe not. Lex knows an affair with an immortal like him would risk everything. No matter how delicious he looks…
I’ve only read one other book by Rebecca Zanetti and that was Marked. Yes, I know I read the last book in a series, which is something that I don’t typically do, but I really liked the book, the world that she had created and Ms. Zanetti’s style of writing, so when I saw that she was doing a spin off series in the same world I had to get my greedy little hands on it and I was not disappointed. Wicked Ride is a fast paced, action packed story with fun, sexy and well written characters and a great storyline that sucked me in from the first page and had me pulling my reading app up on my phone so I could be sneaky and read it while at work.
Kell and Lex were great characters and I adored them. Kell is a sexy, confident, charming, dominant alpha male. He definitely has that ingrained need to protect and do things his way, but isn’t one who is totally blinded and made implacable by it. Lex is a spunky, sassy, take no shit from anyone type of woman. Her sense of right and wrong doesn’t waver and while she may overreact, she is woman enough to admit it. I enjoyed watching as they kept colliding throughout the beginning of the story and how their relationship evolved while they worked a few things out between them without either of them changing who they are at their core. The chemistry between them is pretty damn hot and we get a good mix of flirting, sweet and tender and even some rough/angry sex going on.
Also, I’m a sucker for well written secondary/supporting characters and the ones that we get introduced to in Wicked Ride all fit the bill. Daire and Adam, Kell’s brothers and also Enforcers for the Coven of Nine, were fun because while they all share certain similarities their personalities are very different so their interactions had me laughing quite a few times. Simone, Kell’s cousin and one of the Coven of Nine is just as spunky and sassy as Lex and I loved how she held her own with all the men around her. Bear, I loved and I hope he gets his own book. Bernie I just wanted to hug. And then there are Logan and Garrett, simply put: I want one of each. They had me laughing, sighing and simply wanting to spend more time with them.
The story itself was done well. The pacing was kept at a good clip and nothing felt rushed or felt as if it was being dragged out.. As I said, I only read Marked so there were times where I kicked myself for not reading the entire Dark Protectors series because of little side comments made by the characters would have made more sense, but outside of that I never felt utterly lost since since Ms. Zanetti does a great job of explaining the world she has created throughout the book.
The Bottom Line: I’m hooked! Bring on the next in the series!
