To win her heart, he’ll be in for the fight of his life.
After an illegal kick during a CFA title fight fractures Cole Easton’s spine, doctors say there’s nothing more they can do for the bitter Vegas fighter. They say it’s a miracle he can walk, if that’s what you call his crutch-dragging limp. Unwilling to give up on him, Cole’s manager sends the injured fighter to the best physical therapist he knows: his niece, Katie Miller. When Cole arrives in the small town of Somerset, Wisconsin, he quickly discovers his sly manager may have had reasons other than rehab for sending him to this frozen tundra.
After a year of running from an abusive ex-boyfriend, Katie has returned to her hometown to care for her father, who’s recovering from a stroke. When Uncle Marcus calls in a favor, she reluctantly finds herself taking on a rancorous MMA fighter, broken at the height of his career. He’s insanely sex-on-a-stick hot—and everything she loathes in a man.
If Cole thinks his fighting days are over, he’s dead wrong. To save Katie from her past and to win her heart, he’ll be in for the fight of his life.

The cover and blurb were what caught my interest and having never read anything by this author I decided to give it a go and found it to be an enjoyable read, even with the delicate topic of abuse that dominates the book. While I would have liked a little more on the MMA/Cage fighting aspect what was in the book I thought was well done and the way that the author tackled and presented the issue of abuse and how it can rule the way a person thinks, feels and just lives day to day, as well as how it affects those around them in a realistic way.
Katrina/Katie/Kat is a likeable character. She’s witty. strong and intelligent even though she is damaged on the inside on the most fundamental of levels. Her ability to pick herself up and continuing to live is admirable even though there were times where I questioned the decisions she made when it came to her situation with her stalker ex, but couldn’t fault her for choosing the path she did. Cole I actually adored. When we first meet him, he is definitely cranky, but there is a reason and anyone in his shoes would be acting in the same way. As the story progresses we get to see that while he is an MMA/CFA star, he’s also down to earth and has a very realistic outlook on life and the that he wants to help Katie, not just because he’s interested in her or that she’s his managers niece, but because he really does like her and doesn’t want her to have to live the nightmare anymore was what made me like him even more.
Cole and Katie’s relationship has a lot of ups and downs due to a variety of factors from their working relationship, Cole’s career and the abuse that Katie suffered at the hands of her stalker Ex boyfriend, so the roller coaster feel of it felt right. There were some great light and fun moments where you could feel the chemistry between the two and the way Cole did his best to help Katie when her past caught up with her really showed what kind of man he is.
My only issue is that we didn’t get to experience more of Cole’s road to recovery. There is some in the beginning and then he’s better. Going through physical therapy is long and tedious and I could see how it could slow the pace of the story down, but I’d have liked just a little more on that end.
Overall: This is an enjoyable read and I’ll be keeping an eye out for Aiden’s story.
