She's got three rules:
1. Trust no one… Eve Edens has been abandoned, used, or manipulated by almost everyone she's ever met. Born into ridiculous wealth, she's dealt with the petty jealousies and sordid little resentments for nearly thirty years. But after three botched attempts on her life, she can no longer ignore the truth. Someone wants her dead.
2. Avoid the bad boys at all costs… William "Wild Bill" Reichert, the wonderfully sexy boy who abandoned her years ago, is back in town. Only he's no boy. Now he's a covert operative - and he's all man. When Eve hires Bill to help her discover who is behind the attacks, Bill soon comes to suspect it's someone much closer to Eve than she dares to believe.
3. And never fall for the same ruse twice… The search for the killer takes Bill and Eve deep into the dark secrets and strange world of the rich and famous, and into the heart of red-hot passion re-ignited by the peril that threatens to consume them both. But does Eve dare risk her heart on Bill a second time?
Bill and Eve have been a constant source of amusement for me throughout this series. It may be horrible to some to know that they’re snipes and barbs then regret at their words and constant denial of attraction could be viewed as a source of entertainment, but it was. So I had to wonder what kind of story we would get when these two were finally thrown together, unable to up and walk away, because while their antics were entertaining I didn’t think I could handle and entire book of it, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by how their relationship played out. While there is still that wishy washy, can I let the past be the past thing that permeates throughout the majority of the book, they stop poking the bear and start to see each other for who they are now, not who they were twelve years ago. Billy I liked, have always liked him, but it’s Eve who stole the show for me. I loved that there was so much more to her than anyone knew. We’ve been able to witness her struggle to not fade into the background and allow others to treat her as a doormat and while she still has moments of doubt, she puts her big girl panties on and doesn’t allow herself to go backwards.
The story moved at a good pace for me, though there was a bit of drag towards the end, but considering where it was at, it was appropriate. I enjoyed trying to work the mystery out on my own, I won’t say if my first suspect was the right one, but the mystery of who wanted Eve dead was played well. And while there was no Ozzie time (Yes, I love Ozzie) I LOVED Ace, his antics had me laughing outloud and am looking forward to learning more about him.
