I'm a huge fan of this author and the Inked Brotherhood series. This spin off series is fabulous and continues to tell the story of the original guys. I reviewed Micha and have the pleasure of reviewing Jesse for you.
Jesse has had a tough life having grown up in and out of the system before eventually finding himself on the streets. He was homeless and doing whatever was necessary to get a few bucks here and there just to keep himself fed. Being pulled from that life by Zane and Rafe, he was given a second chance at making a life for himself, even if he is terrified he will lose it all at any second. He has trust issues and doesn't see how much better his life has become or the potential everyone else sees in him. Jesse is hot, tattooed and snagged my heart from the beginning.
Enter Amber. She is returning to her hometown where she lived through years of bullying and verbal abuse at the hands of the rich and entitled kids in the high school. It was so bad that she and her family moved away to give her an opportunity to live a life without the fear of the kids at her school. She's come back as an adult to face her fears and make something of herself. Her best friend Ev, who we met in Micha's book, is her biggest supporter and cheering section. She sees how amazing Amber is and with the help of others, shows her that her talent with jewelry gives her a leg up on her fight to rise above her past. Amber is introverted to an almost painful extent, but she takes risks with the support of her friends which demonstrated her inner strength.
She and Jesse clash from the beginning since he's a "manwhore" and she's a quiet, fearful wallflower, but something about her draws Jesse in and he's helpless to stop it. He begins to tear down her carefully constructed wall and allows her to see a side of him the rest of the world has never seen. The build a tenuous friendship that eventually becomes a hard won, solid relationship- that is if they are both willing to let go of their old fears and take the leap. Their friends can see it. The outside world can see it. Will they recognize what they have before it is too late?
Raven doesn't disappoint with Jesse's book. Kept me hooked from the beginning and left me anticipating the next book! I'm thrilled Jo Raven is continuing to give us a glimpse into the world of the Inked Brotherhood and the Damage Boys. She is an expert storyteller and if you haven't read her word before, dive in with Asher, Inked Brotherhood Book 1.
