The first time I met Brody Easton was in the men’s locker room.
It was my first interview as a professional sportscaster.
The famed quarterback decided to bare all.
And by all, I don’t mean he told me any of his secrets.
No. The arrogant ass decided to drop his towel, just as I asked the first question. On camera.
The Super Bowl MVP quickly adopted a new hobby—screwing with me.
When I pushed back, he shifted from wanting to screw with me, to wanting to screw me.
But I don’t date players.
And it’s not because I’m one of the few women working in the world of professional football.
I’d date an athlete.
It’s the other kind of player I don’t date.
You know the type. Good looking, strong, cocky, always looking to get laid.
Brody Easton was the ultimate player.
Every woman wanted to be the one to change him.
But the truth was, all he needed was a girl worth changing for.
Turned out, I was that girl.
Let’s face it. It never is.
There’s a story between once upon a time and happily ever after…
And this one is ours.
I kept seeing The Baller pop up all over my SM feeds and it was damn difficult to ignore thanks to that sexy as hell cover and put it on the TBR list. Then the blurb came out and I knew I’d be getting my hands on the book because I love nothing more than a cocky sports hottie going up against strong, intelligent woman. Now, I wasn’t going to read it as soon as I have, but again my feeds blew up, so I jumped and I gotta say that I’m happy I did because I loved and adored Brody and Delilah!
I adored Brody from the moment he dropped that towel. He’s cocky, arrogant, knows just how damn sexy he is and isn’t afraid to use it to his advantage and has the stats to back all of that up. But then there is the flip side to the coin that is Brody Easton and what you find is a man who thinks outside the box and has a has a heart so golden it’s blinding. What I loved about Brody was how well balanced he actually was. He has his ups and downs and doesn’t always handle things in the best of ways, but his hidden sweetness and dirty mind had me smiling the entire time.
Delilah surprised me. For a woman in the position that she was in, she could have been a hardass who always felt the need to prove that not only was she one of the boys, but better than them, but that wasn’t her at all. Her love of football comes from her upbringing and that love is as genuine as it gets. She’s that woman that knows all the stats, not only of current players but past. She loves everything about the game and chose a career that would allow her to be actively involved in it. She’s witty and walks the line of being snarky enough to be amusing without looking like she’s trying too hard and has a great sense of humor that draws you in and makes you want to know more about her.
I loved how their relationship went from adversaries to friends to lovers. The chemistry between them was hot and I loved how Brody never gave up, no matter how inappropriate he got, but I loved the bantering between them even more. They way that they attempted to be friends and learn about each other had me cracking up and I liked how they accepted each other as they were and that acceptance deepened as they spent more time together. The bumps in the road were realistic with him being an in demand athlete and her a reporter and liked how they worked through the huge pot hole in the road.
This is the first book by the author I’ve read, though I did read Cocky Bastard, and I really enjoyed her voice and how she wrote the first person POV. The journey for both Brody and Delilah was well done, though there is a part of me that wishes we’d gotten a little depth on Delilah because in comparison to Brody I feel that we only scratched the surface. My other issue, for lack of a better word and what has me waffling between a 4/4.5 rating, was the insertion of a third voice to the story. I didn’t mind it in general and give the author props for going there, but I could have done without it and had more time with Brody and Delilah hashing things out.
The Bottom Line: This was a fun and sexy read and Brody Easton has definitely made my book boyfriend list!
