I adore Cletus!
Sorry. I just had to get that out of the way, at least for now.
After reading and enjoying The Hooker and The Hermit I wanted to see what Ms. Reid had to offer without a co-author and bumped Truth or Beard up on the TBR list and really enjoyed it. It was a fun read with a good mix of sweet, smexy, angst and a little crazy thrown in the mix and had some great characters that I’m looking forward to get to know better as the series progresses.
I really liked Jessica. I loved that though she didn’t necessarily fit the norm in her family, she was okay with it. She wanted to follow her dreams of seeing the world and was going to find a way to do it with or without their approval. She is intelligent and has a sassy side that was fun without being too outrageous.
Then there is Duane. I had a love/hate relationship with him. I loved that he was so committed to his family and tended to put them first. He’s calm, logical and tends to think before he does anything and though he has a gruff exterior he has a huge heart. But dear lord did the man have tunnel vision. His need to have a plan and have things go his way had me wanting to reach out and smack him.
From the moment it became clear which Winston twin was the one for Jess it was a fun ride to be on as they got to know each other better. I loved their bantering and the way that they not only pushed each other, but kept each other grounded. The bumps in the road were just a tad frustrating and I’ll admit that there were times when I had to question Jess’s sanity as she fought for her relationship with Duane, but in the end it was well worth it.
As much as I enjoyed Jess and Duane, I really loved the Winston brothers, especially Cletus ~ I seriously love how his mind works. Each of them have such distinct personalities that it was fun to watch as they supported each other as well as ripped on each other and I can’t wait to spend more time with them all!
Beards, brothers, and bikers! Oh my!
Identical twins Beau and Duane Winston might share the same devastatingly handsome face, but where Beau is outgoing and sociable, Duane is broody and reserved. This is why Jessica James, recent college graduate and perpetual level-headed good girl, has been in naïve and unhealthy infatuation with Beau Winston for most of her life.
His friendly smiles make her tongue-tied and weak-kneed, and she’s never been able to move beyond her childhood crush. Whereas Duane and Jessica have always been adversaries. She can’t stand him, and she’s pretty sure he can’t stand the sight of her…
But after a case of mistaken identity, Jessica finds herself in a massive confusion kerfuffle. Jessica James has spent her whole life paralyzed by the fantasy of Beau and her assumptions of Duane’s disdain; therefore she’s unprepared for the reality that is Duane’s insatiable interest, as well as his hot hands and hot mouth and hotter looks. Not helping Jessica’s muddled mind and good girl sensibilities, Duane seems to have gotten himself in trouble with the local biker gang, the Iron Order.
Certainly, Beau’s magic spell is broken. Yet when Jessica finds herself drawn to the man who was always her adversary, now more dangerous than ever, how much of her level-head heart is she willing to risk?
