Evelyn Thomas’s plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure as hell never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened.
One thing is for certain, being married to rock and roll’s favorite son is sure to be a wild ride.

I have a little bone to pick with my friends over this one because not one of them warned me that once I started Lick that I would have a hell of a time putting it down. I figured that I’d just read a couple chapters this morning before doing that work thing to feel it out and then I’d get to it at my lunch hour and when I got home. Yeah. That so did not happen. This was a situation where I thanked the techie gods for smartphones and apps because I couldn’t put it down. I got so hooked on Evelyn and David’s story that I figured I would be useless at work so I might as well be productive in one way (Note: I did get some work done so yay me!)
I just fell in love with Evelyn and David. That’s really the only way to put it. I liked how Evelyn processed all that was going on around her and dealt with it all. Even when she was at her most vulnerable, whether it be because she was a curvy girl or because she just didn’t fit in with the people who surrounded David, she kept her head held high and had no issue with dressing people down when the need arose. But she also didn’t just fly off the handle at every little thing. She tried to be as logical as she could and did her best to do whatever she could to understand what was really going on, even if it meant that she did a little verbal vomiting. David, while I did want to wring his neck a few times, was a great mix of sexy alpha and vulnerable male who has been burned and just can’t quite seem to make heads or tails of why he is feeling the way he is, but knows that he doesn’t want to totally shut it down. And while there was a bit of “insta-ness” going on with David and Ev, I mean they did get married and all, I enjoyed how determined they were, especially Ev, to get to know each other. The sex scenes were pretty damn hot, and I liked the fact that while their first time ended up great, it wasn’t all wine and roses.
As for the rest of the cast of characters. I loved Malcolm. He had me cracking up whenever he was around. Jimmy, well he definitely grew on me. But Ben...the jury is out on him, so we’ll have to see what happens as I read the rest of the series. Lauren was a great friend, and reminded me of a few of my own. The glimpses of Amanda, Jo and Ruby we got were great and really did help to round out the story a bit. And then there’s Sam. Is it possible to have a little crush on a character that didn’t say all that much??
Overall I just really enjoyed Lick. It had a great blend of humor, smexyness, angsty drama, sweetness and sassiness and characters that I couldn’t help but like in one way or another so I’ll be reading the rest of the series, but won’t start the next one on a work day or night.
