When did you decide that writing was your passion?
My writing career started in college. I was a voracious reader of all things romance and simply could not get enough of authors like Sandra Brown and Virginia Henley. I enjoyed the art of storytelling so much I thought I would give it a try. My husband, boyfriend at the time, had an electric typewriter I quickly procured and next thing you know I was on my way.
Who is your favorite character overall that you've written?
I would say my favorite character to write was Shock from the Doomsday Brethren series. He is snarky, thick skinned, will say anything and you never know what he’s thinking.
Do you think you would pursue one or more of your series becoming a television program whether it be a cable network or a mini series?
I would definitely consider television or movie options. However, I would want to ensure any adaptation remains true to the original stories and characters.
Will you be writing another Doomsday Brethren book?
I hope to release another one someday. Besides my schedule being VERY full, I was unable to obtain the rights back to the first four books and Mated novella from the publisher, which nixed my plans to reissue them (with all the sex and other deleted scenes they’d removed) so I could continue the series. If that changes, then I’ll do everything to work one into my calendar because I miss these characters, too. Rest assured, I’ve heard from MANY of you who want to know what’s going to happen with Bram and his mysterious Emma. And of course, lots of people ask for an update on the big guy, Shock. I’m hoping this situation resolves itself soon. I’ll keep everyone advised if there’s any progress.
Have you written parts of yourself into any of your heroines? If so, which one(s)?
I can identify traits of myself in three different heroines:
Alyssa (Delicious) - because of her perseverance
Kata (Surrender to Me) - she’s a curvy girl who speaks her mind
Callie (Theirs to Cherish) - her heart is a lot like mine
What advice do you give aspiring authors?
Advice is really tough for me. What has worked for me may not necessarily translate to someone else. However, I have three mantras I feel EVERY writer should consider.
I started my career and continue to gather as much information as possible. I always suggest new authors take advantage of online classes, speakers who are experts in their field and to really focus on areas of weakness in their craft.
Criticism and rejection are not a bad words. If things come too quickly its truly hard to appreciate any success.
Don't just talk about it, do it! Figure out when you can grab a niche of time each day--whatever works best for you. When I worked a corporate job, for instance, I often wrote on my lunch hour. Once you find that schedule you can manage, get those words on the page.
When you write do you have special music that plays depending upon the scene and do you picture a certain actor/actress in your mind for your main characters?
I actually have a SPOTIFY music playlist that gets a heavy rotation in my home office http://bit.ly/1FjW6pa.
