Growing up an Army brat, Violet Channing could never meet her dad’s high expectations. But in the eyes of her best friend, she could do no wrong. He even insisted that he should be her first kiss. Now Cain Sorensen is all grown up, hardened by years in special ops and always looking for a good fight. Tall, with striking blue eyes and impossibly blond hair, he’s a modern-day Viking warrior. Of course, Violet’s all grown up, too, and she’s ready to surrender to his every command.
Cain knows he’s bad for Violet. His work is dangerous, and his hobbies are downright deadly. As a private mercenary and a mixed martial arts fighter, he could never let such an innocent soul into his world. And yet his most grueling combat training is no match for Violet’s killer curves, hot touch, and suggestive glances. Now all of Cain’s most explosive fantasies are coming true—but once they cross the line between friends and lovers, there’s no turning back.
If you’re looking for steamy, hot sex, look no further. Sidney Halston knows how to raise your blood pressure for sure.
This was the first book by this particular author and though I’d not read any of the previous books in the series, I didn’t feel lost once. After meeting some of the ‘past’ characters, I definitely will be adding the previous books to my TBR pile. Normally, I’d classify blonde males as not my type, but if someone that looked like Cain was my best friend, I don’t think I could remain as platonic or oblivious as Violet at the beginning.
This book is filled with a variety of emotional upheaval, but isn’t life for us all? I laughed aloud at some of Violet and Cain’s antics, especially Violet’s. If I didn’t know better, I would have thought Sidney Halston had met my youngest. Violet’s penchant for verbal vomiting aka, filling the void of silence with nonsensical words spoken so fast you have to blink to keep the wind at bay, is so like my young adult child that I made my husband ask why I was laughing or sighing. Then it seemed just a minute later, he was asking me if I was okay because tears were in my eyes. Cain is all over the place in my mind, like most twenty somethings, only he is in his thirties. Sexy, intense, a douche bag one minute and a knight in shining armor the next making Violet crazy. I wanted to reach through the book a few times and shake them both. Or, as I tell my kids-put them in a big bag and shake them up.
Cain is a dick to Violet because of his own personal guilt, which is truly understandable. Violet, for her part keeps forgiving him, going back for more punishment so to speak and all I wanted to do was bitch slap her and say enough is enough. Both of you get your heads out of your asses and move on. Then again, I know people just like Cain and Violet and would like to take a swing at them to knock sense into their thick skulls.
When the story culminates, I’m surprised by the final twist that I didn’t see coming, but think the ending was way too rushed. I for one, would have liked to see more, not less of this couple. A must read in my humble opinion. Fast paced, fun and filled with plot twists. Definitely Sidney Halston is an author to have on your shelves.
