Lincoln Stallworth, bass player for Black Ice, has quietly watched each of his band mates fall in love and has accepted the fact he'll probably never find the same for himself. He doesn't really believe in true love, couldn't fully understand the absurdity of it, or the notion there could be just one perfect person for everyone. A debilitating health issue began to shadow Lincoln in the middle of their last tour. As his physical symptoms worsen, Lincoln has to fight the urge to hide from the world and himself inside his estate.
Aaron Baylor enters Lincoln's life at his lowest point. Lincoln feels broken, damaged beyond repair, and he's ready to give-up. Aaron's patience and unwavering support slowly begin to pull Lincoln back to being present in his own life and gives him hope for a future and for love. Will Aaron be the glue that holds the broken pieces of Lincoln's life together? Can Lincoln fight his way back to good health and take a chance at love? Or will the task be too great for Lincoln to handle?
I will say first off, this was a hard book for me to read. Not because of the subject matter or anything that was in the story, but because it was the last of the series. I know there is another series coming, where the band members that we all have grown to love will make appearances (more on that to come) but it is not the same, at least, not to me. What really got to me, was that Ann Lister really gave us a great story with some poignant moments that not only featured the main characters, but the other members of Black Ice and Ivory Tower. It was all those moments that made this final story more than it would appear to be.
So, Lincoln and Aaron! Woah! Amazing and steamy, complex and sweet, and then there is the dynamic between them. Ok, so maybe I am getting a little ahead of myself here. However, it's a little hard to go into the dynamic between them without giving a major spoiler, but I think I can be safe in letting the cat out of the bag that Lincoln is sick. I mean, it's part of the book description, so that's really not a spoiler. The friendship and relationship that develops from what is going on with Lincoln is what will get you. If you have ever known anyone with a disease that they try to hide from others, you will immediately connect and understand the struggle that Lincoln is having. The way that Aaron cares for him and helps him in not just the physical sense, will make you rooting for their relationship before it even really begins.
As usual Ann Lister delivers not just an amazing story with a complex plot, but she gives us our hot Rock Stars, the steamy moments between them, and the developing relationships that are realistic and pull on your heartstrings. There is no disappointment in this part of the series, other than the fact that it has come to an end.
Now, about that new series... Ann Lister has the supporting series all planned out that will feature the bodyguards that take care and make sure all of our Rock Gods are safe. You will want to make sure to be on the lookout for that! At least, I know I will.
For now though, I will love the Rock Gods and read them over and over. Because, like a great song, the more you listen, the better it becomes, right? That goes for reading! The more you read this series the better it gets. From the first book to the last... They ROCK!
