My inner fan girl somersaulted, cartwheeled and back handspringed for the opportunity to read an ARC from one of my favorite Authors. I believe I own almost everyone of Angela's books. Being able to review the first of a new series, one she has written entirely on her own, is even more exciting than I anticipated.
Who hasn't wished the lover of a book be able to step out of the pages to sweep you off your feet and take you away from all of the daily grind? (Raises hand) Not that I don't love my husband, but let's face it ladies, a millennium old God, like Paladin has learned a thing or two about making a woman happy.
I'm trying not to put spoilers in my review, but one or two may just sneak in. Sorry.
Summer St. Clair, who could be my daughter in looks by the way, is a writer of paranormal romance/sci-fi by trade. (I freaking LOVE this) The stories of Paladin are her way of keeping sane as she relives Paladin's memories. When she discovers this is the case, it results in a questioning of her abilities. (Sounds familiar)
Paladin was a God on this earth who, at the end of his lifetime, transferred his life-force into a Demi-God host. Male or female it didn't matter. He cared for them all, until Summer. Inside Summer's body and head since she was a young child, he was her imaginary playmate when young and her fantasy lover when she came of age.
A spell had been placed over Summer to safeguard her from shorting out from the power of Paladin and as she aged, the spell weakened. I liked this part of the story because it gave Paladin and Summer the time to get to know each other as people other than as God and host.
Overall, I loved this book. I loved Summer more than Paladin and can't wait to see what Angela Knight has in store for us next.
There's nothing imaginary about Paladin now. Hot, seductive and dangerous, Paladin blurs the line between fantasy and reality. The passion Summer experiences in his arms makes her question what's real -- or whether she cares.
Someone else believes in Paladin, and he wants Summer dead. Her confusion mounts when she fights off five attackers with a display of dazzling martial arts skills she doesn't remember acquiring. As she searches for answers and runs for her life, her dream lover becomes more real with every kiss.
I've been married to a wonderful man for more than twenty years now. He's a senior investigator with our county sheriff's office. As a result, I know an awful lot of cops, which is one reason I love putting police procedural elements in my fiction. I also spent ten years as a reporter, which gave me a collection of war stories you would not believe.
My husband Mike and I have one son, Anthony, who is in his twenties now.
