Author: Carrie Ann Ryan
Genre: Contemporary Romance
The Montgomery Ink series by NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan continues when the final Denver Montgomery sibling refuses to fall for his brother’s former flame—the company’s new plumber.
Wes Montgomery watched his entire family fall in love, and now finds himself ready to settle down. Except the one person he seems to find chemistry with is not only his twin’s ex, she also works for Montgomery Inc. But when the two find themselves in one compromising situation after another, Wes realizes he’s having second thoughts about the dynamic woman who’s burst her way into his life. Sure she sets off his temper, but she also makes him hot in every other way possible.
Jillian Reid never loved her best friend like everyone thought she should, so she pushed him away so he could have his future. Now, despite fighting it, she finds herself attracted to the one man she shouldn’t. When her father’s health takes a turn for the worse, and a danger no one saw coming show its face, she’s forced to turn to Wes for help. The two of them have fought off their attraction long enough, and each cave to the desire. But this enemies-to-lovers tale might have an ending no one ever dreamed of.
First of all....the cover....is phenomenal! I love the image and it sets the tone for the last of the Montgomery siblings. I couldn't wait to dive in given that we've known Wes for a long time now and we've seen Jillian through her best friend and ex-lover's eyes. There was just so much to look forward to and I'm thrilled that I was given the chance to review the final chapter of the Denver Montgomery clan.
Jillian is a strong character~ a woman who knows what she wants and isn't afraid to go after it. She's independent and isn't one to ask for help, even when she really needs it. She's used to being her own woman and relying only on her father as she has her entire life, but when she is faced with his mortality and vulnerability, she still stubbornly refuses to ask for help. Asking for support would not have changed the inevitable outcome, but she wouldn't have had to do it alone.
Wes finds the stubborn woman pushes all of his buttons both personally and professionally. He is someone who plays it close to the vest and I felt like saying, "Pot, meet Kettle..." when he began getting on her for hiding from him and his family. He is the caretaker and wants to make sure everyone around him is settled before he worries about himself. Oh, and he is a true alpha male, but doesn't mind handing over the reigns at times, which makes him that much more desirable.
The sparks fly and the story is made even more appealing as the mystery unfolds. Yes! There is mystery and intrigue as a subtle undercurrent throughout the book. So while watching Wes and Jillian dance around each other, you also have the added bonus of the suspenseful tension building behind the scenes. Their story had me all over the place emotionally and that is one of my favorite aspects of Ryan's books. She builds the sexual tension as well as the emotional tension, combining them together for the perfect blend. Like the tattoos mentioned throughout the books, Ryan's canvas is the page of the book and her indelible marks are the lives she created via the Montgomery family. Can't wait for the next set!
