He may very well be the perfect ex...
Isaac McKnight has had enough loss in his life to know never to take anything for granted. So when the perfectly-imperfect-woman-for-him puts an end to their relationship out of the blue, it's Isaac that makes sure they remain friends. Now a year later, whether it's at his gym or her brewpub, or the dog park they visit every weekend--though neither of them own a dog--he and Xoey are steadily getting sucked deeper into buddy-zone galaxy, with its dangerous proximity to watch-me-settle-down-with-someone-else abyss. It's a reality he's resigned himself to. That is...until one drunken confession changes everything.
But she's looking for the perfect oh...
For Xoey Montenegro, history has taught her that sometimes, it's Prince Charming who vanishes without a trace. And fairytale love? Highly overrated. Heck, give her a real and perfect 'oh' over that fantasy any day. So as far as rock-solid tequila-fueled plans for her love life go, coming up with a match-finding formula based on the qualities of the men responsible for her three most epic ohs seems brilliant. Except for the fact that one-third of her genius little man-quation is all about her friend Isaac. Actually, more than a third if Xoey were being honest with herself--which she's not. Because full honesty would require thinking not just about how perfect Isaac really is, but also about how perfect the fourth epic oh she's kept buried deep in her past once was.
An easy enough thing to keep ignoring...until her past isn't past tense anymore.
This was a quick, enjoyable read. Once I picked it up, I could not put it down.
I have not read the other books in the series, but that didn't make reading this book any less interesting or fun. The characters are wonderful and while I thought maybe the plot was predictable, I was wrong. It was anything BUT predictable. If you are looking for a love story with some amazing twists and turns, look no further.
Xoey is an independent woman who is part owner of the town bar. She worked her way up from being a waitress and working four other jobs, to being able to enjoy the fruits of her labor. The only thing holding her back from being truly happy was finding THE one. THE man who'd haunted her dreams since she met him over ten years ago. So, her friends who adore her and want only the best for her, begin setting her up on blind dates. While Xoey balks at this, they defend themselves by pointing out that they are only following her equation for the perfect man that she created in a drunken moment. She can't argue with them about that, so she goes on these dates knowing full well no man can meet her requirements.
Isaac, a successful man who owns his own MMA gym and one of Xoey's exes, is now her best friend. He knows her like the back of his hand and wouldn't change his relationship with her for anything. He helps her other friends choose the men they send her out with and then gets texts and phone calls recapping each of her dates. He's funny, unassuming and even Xoey would admit, her best friend. So when her life and his begin moving out of control, what will they do? Will they end up together? Will Isaac be friend-zoned forever? Can they overcome the obstacles in their way, many self-imposed, and find their way to each other?
It is so much fun finding out- even though there are a few moments of tears and lots of questions pop up along the way- this is worth it!
